The festival was founded in 1995 by Dan Mirvish, Jon Fitzgerald, Shane Kuhn, and Peter
Baxter, along with Paul Rachman, after they had been unsuccessful in submitting films
to the Sundance Film Festival. Baxter has been in charge of Slamdance since 1997.
