Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1976. After studying Literature, cinema and theater, she published three novels El niño pez (Beatrix Viterbo, Tusquets, 2004), 9 minutos (Beatriz Viterbo, Tusquets, 2005) and La maldición de Jacinta Pichimahuida (Interzona, 2007). XXY, her first feature film, received the support of the Cine Fondation, Fond Sud, INCAA and ICAA. She also directed short films, documen-taries and TV miniseries.

Her first film, “XXY”, won the Critics’ Week Grand Prize (2007), a Goya for the Best Foreign Film, as well as more than twenty international prizes. Her second film, “El niño pez” (“The Fish Child”), opened the Panorama Section at the Berlin Film Festival in 2009, won prizes in Spain, Romania, and Japan, and was an Official Selection in Tribeca and Havana, as well as in many other festivals. She has published five novels. In 2013 she wrote and directed “The German Doctor,” a film based on her latest novel, Wakolda (2011). Her books have been published in several languages.
