Alex Schmider

Alex Schmider is an independent film producer and the Senior Director of Entertainment & Transgender Inclusion at GLAAD, the nation’s leading LGBTQ media advocacy organization.

Schmider's producing credits include Changing the Game (Hulu), Disclosure (Netflix), Framing Agnes (Kino Lorber), Stay on Board: The Leo Baker Story (Netflix) and Chasing Chasing Amy (2023). His films have premiered at Sundance and Tribeca, and screened at hundreds of festivals around the world, among them BFI and Hot Docs. These films have been recognized by Cinema Eye Honors, the Critics' Choice Awards, Peabody Awards, and GLAAD Awards, among others.

In 2022, Schmider was nominated for a Primetime Emmy® Award for Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking and, in 2023, was honored as one of DOC NYC's 40 under 40. In 2021, Schmider was named to them's Now List recognizing LGBTQ+ visionaries. He has served as a juror for festivals including Mountainfilm, Outfest, San Francisco International, Bentonville, Cleveland International, Nashville International, and Inside Out, among others. He has also served as a programming consultant for Hot Docs since 2022.

While in development and production on multiple fiction and non-fiction projects, he works full-time at GLAAD and sits on the Advisory Committee for the Ad Council, serves on the Board for the 19th*, and is an active member of the Producers Guild of America, the Documentary Producers Alliance, and the Television Academy where he is on the Diversity Committee and served on the Television Academy Honors Selection Committee.

Schmider is a proud UCLA Anderson Business School dropout and, while still a Forbes 30 Under 30 listmaker from 2017, he is gleefully no longer under 30. He resides just outside of Los Angeles but travels frequently for film festival and industry award jury duties, screenings, trainings, Marriott points, and football games.
