L’inis. “À Propos.” Accessed September 30, 2024. https://inis.qc.ca/a-propos-inis.1988-1995 | A broad consultation is conducted by Fernand Dansereau with professional associations around a film school project. The National Institute of Image and Sound (L'inis) is incorporated in June 1990. Its preliminary implementation report is unanimously approved in the field. The structure is set up in 1994 and 1995 under the direction of Louise Spickler. 1996-2000 | In January 1996, L'inis welcomed its first students in screenwriting and directing as part of an 18-month program covering documentaries, television fiction and film fiction. The Production profile was added the following year when L'inis moved to its current premises on De Maisonneuve Boulevard East in Montreal. The institute then set about diversifying and improving its programs and partnerships, notably by creating the Portraits croisés program in collaboration with various European schools. 2001-2007 | The long program at L'inis is abandoned in favour of separate and intensive programs in television, film and interactive media. The institute offers its first continuing education programs and receives its first mandate from Telefilm Canada under the Interdepartmental Partnership Program with Official Language Communities. L'inis contributes to the creation of the Association des écoles supérieures d'art du Québec. In 2006, several hundred people, graduates, students, trainers, production collaborators and partners, gather to celebrate L'inis' 10 years of activity. 2007-2016 | In 2007, L'inis added the Documentary program to its training offering. The same year, L'inis launched the feature film Le Ring, written by Renée Beaulieu, directed by Anaïs Barbeau-Lavalette and produced by Ian Quenneville and Thomas Ramoisy. During this period, L'inis set up the Continuing Professional Training department, which was mandated to offer a variety of à la carte courses for those who wanted to develop new skills in audiovisual. 2016-2019 | In 2016, L'inis celebrates its 20th anniversary. The Ministry of Employment grants L'institut the status of a training mutual for the audiovisual sector. As such, it has the mandate to develop, in consultation with the majority of associations and unions in the sector, training courses that meet the needs of workers in cinema, television and digital productions. This has resulted in a significant growth in the number of courses that reach more than a thousand people each year. Since 2020 | INIS has undertaken a major review of its training offering in order to update it and make it more relevant than ever. In addition to an exhaustive analysis of its programs, the Institute produces a Macrosectoral Study of the Training Needs of the Audiovisual Sector . Thus equipped, INIS confirms its place in the audiovisual ecosystem in Quebec and its role as a professional training center serving skills development. 2023 | L'inis is getting a new brand image! "Climbing a step", "changing levels", "climbing the floors": students who attend L'inis are really accelerating their careers in the audiovisual professions. The new brand image of our organization, developed by the Le Séisme studio, fully reflects this philosophy.
