Biography

The son of Caribbean parents, Aml Ameen shone in his breakout performance as Trife in the cult classic KIDULTHOOD, for which he was recognized as one of the Screen International's 2005 Stars of Tomorrow and nominated for Screen Nation's 2006 Best Newcomer award. Ameen portrayed series regular Lewis Hardy on the hit BAFTA series THE BILL and Bag 'O Bones in George Lucas' RED TAILS. Aml's work for The Bill won him an enthusiastic fan base and Screen Nation's 2007 Best Actor Award. Cast by David E. Kelly as young lawyer Malcolm Davies for NBC's HARRY'S LAW, Ameen's work alongside Kathy Bates earned him widespread praise and Screen International's spotlight as a notable Brit To Watch. Ameen played fifteen-year-old Cecil Gaines to Forrest Whitaker's adult Gaines in Lee Daniels' critically acclaimed film THE BUTLER. He portrayed lead glader Alby in 20th Century Fox's THE MAZE RUNNER. Ameen also portrayed lead sensate Capheus Onyango for the Wachowskis' series SENSE8. Buoyed by mainstream success, Ameen started in Rafi Pitts' SOY NERO which was selected to compete for the Golden Bear at the 66th Berlin International Film Festival. He also starred in Anthony Onah's THE PRICE which was selected for SXSW, and Idris Elba's Sundance selected feature debut YARDIE, a crime saga based on Victor Headley's classic novel. Most recently, Ameen co-starred in Michaela Coel's acclaimed series I MAY DESTROY YOU and made his writer/director/producer debut with BOXING DAY, the UK's first-holiday romantic comedy featuring an all-black cast. Produced by Film Four and the BFI, BOXING DAY will be released by Warner Brothers UK.
