Biography

Hope Dector is filmmaker, producer, and multimedia storyteller based in Brooklyn, NY. They are interested in creating art and media that tell stories and explore ideas related to queer and trans liberation, prison abolition, and transformative justice. Hope has worked in longstanding collaborations with artists and organizers including Tourmaline, Mariame Kaba, Dean Spade, and Song Hà. Films that they have produced have screened at NewFest, BFI Flare, Whitney Biennial, Venice Biennale, Brooklyn Museum, Interference Archive, and Mass MoCA; and are included in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Tate, the Whitney, and MoMA, among others. As the Creative Director of the Barnard Center for Research on Women, Hope has collaborated with activists and scholars to produce and edit videos exploring mutual aid, accountability, reproductive justice, and disability justice.
